Cutting is Shipping
Hello everyone! Today marks the beginning of Vis's sixth month of development. Despite progress being much slower than anticipated last month (the sleep deprivation caused by my newborn daughter hit my productivity pretty hard), I've officially crossed the bar for the MVP and will be rolling Vis out this month. Though larger in scope than what some people consider minimally viable, I did cut some features to enable me to launch earlier and move on to the next phase: sales.
Why an MVP?
The main goal of building a minimally viable product as fast as possible is to validate your idea's demand (or Product-Market Fit). In fact, the most significant risk I'm facing right now is not so much building the product wrong but rather building the wrong product. While I'm confident in the value Vis provides, and talking to customers has helped cement that belief, the best way to validate it is to get people to pay real money for it. This is a product with immense potential, and I'm excited to see it come to life.
And so, without further ado, let's go through a demo of Vis before we discuss what made the cut and what didn't.
Vis Demo
The Vis Web App currently supports:
Accessing all the workouts assigned to you
Customizing workouts inputs
Plate calculation
Rest Timer
What didn't make the cut but should arrive soon:
Offline support (already 75% there)
Scheduling of programs
Workout history and stats
While some of the missing features are essential, they shouldn't prevent me from starting to sell the product. Once a client signs up, building their workouts and programs will take some time. This gives me enough time to implement important features cut from the MVP and release a more complete feature set by mid-August.
Next step: Sales
Now that the product is officially in MVP territory, the immediate next step is to deploy it to production. Once that's done, I'll reach out to select testers to try out both Vis Pro and Vis and to some potential customers I've already identified.
I've personally never done "sales," let alone B2B sales, beyond simple Instagram Ads, so this will be an interesting and, I am sure, humbling experience. With that in mind, I'm setting the goal to sign one gym and one personal trainer by the end of July. We'll see how it goes, but I'm excited and nervous.
I'll keep you posted!
Gab
